For a leading technology giant that ranks itself as a something above the rest, it’s astounding for us to see how often Apple sits back and lets others pilot the way. The Apple users call this as virtue, while Android users name it as a weakness. We all remember the days when Steve Jobs used to make fun of large sized smartphones, but with iPhone 6 and 6 plus we feel like Apple is starting to surrender that bigger is better.
Design
The new iconic apple flagship flaunts a 4.7-inch screen and is 8.4 millimetres wide, which is barely noticeable unless you have extremely dainty hands. iPhone 6 has a thinner and lighter body with curved edges to help it sit comfortably in your hand. The power button has moved from the top to the right-hand side, in level with the volume button exactly where it sits on a Samsung Galaxy S. It’s the first of several adjustments that Apple has tried to help ease the transition into the daring new world of large sized iPhones.
Apple’s new design for iPhone 6 brings a metallic, almost ceramic, shell that feels simply brilliant in the hand.
Screen
With the large 4.7-inch screen, the resolution of this phone is 1334×750 with 326 ppi pixel density, so it looks just as sharp. The screen is simply stunning and offers whiter whites, improving the contrast when reading text on a white page. It still offers the same remarkable color precision but extends the viewing angles.
The iPhone 6’s screen is a bit less reflective combined with the increased brightness, helps battle outdoor glare. When the iPhone 5’s screen was already one of the best you’d find on a smartphone, it’s impressive that Apple could improve on it with the iPhone 6.
Performance
The iPhone 6 has Apple’s new A8 powerplant, built on the A7’s shift to 64-bit architecture with the iPhone 5s. The 1 GB RAM under the bonnet keeps the phone running fast and responsive under heavy load, while the benchmarks certify to its true potential.
The iPhone 6 adds 802.11ac wi-fi to bring it back on the game with many of its Android rivals. To take full advantage of this one might need a ac-compatible wireless router.
Even without LTE Advanced the iPhone 6 still delivers a slight performance boost compared to the iPhone 5, hitting peak download speeds of 72.4 Mbps from Telstra – when across the road from a mobile tower – compared to 69.7 Mbps on the iPhone 5 in the same spot. Both clocked an impressive 31.5 Mbps upload speed.

The iPhone 6 is a great jump forward from the iPhone 5 and a significant improvement on the iPhone 5s. If Steve Jobs were here he’d perhaps say the iPhone 6 is the iPhone you didn’t know you wanted, but it’s actually the iPhone that many of us have wanted for a while now but Apple just wouldn’t give them.
